FUSION Multi Branded Office Solutions walked away with top honours from the Daily Dispatch/Border-Kei Chamber of Business 2009 Business Awards last night as the best emerging entrepreneur.
The winners of the other categories, announced at a gala dinner at East London’s Osner Hotel attended by leaders of the private and public sector, were:
For businesses with a turnover of below R5million: Kim’s Antiques and Auctioneers;
For businesses with a turnover of between R5m and R15m: Homeguard Cleaning and Pest Control Services; and
For businesses with a turnover of R15m-plus: jointly won by Abbotsford Service Station and Hardware Warehouse.
Jonathan Goldberg from Global Business Solutions was awarded the Business Person of the Year award for overall business, while Simphiwe Kondlo, chief executive officer of the East London Industrial Development Zone, was awarded the Business Person of the Year award for organisational excellence.
Daily Dispatch editor Andrew Trench said the event had been a great success. He was impressed with the calibre of entries, particularly in view of the tough economic conditions with which they had had to contend.
“This just goes to show that there are businesses in the region who are actively contributing to the economy and who are making a positive difference,” he said.
Border-Kei Chamber of Business executive director Les Holbrook also commended the awards, and thanked the main sponsors, the Industrial Development Corporation and Standard Bank, for their support.
Special thanks also went to the five judges – Gavin Ferreira of Standard Bank, Mazwi Tunyiswa from the IDC, Gary McLean from Charteris and Barnes, who also performed the role of awards auditor, Mary Wrench from Financial Planners, and Professor Stephen Flowerday from the University of Fort Hare.
Also acknowledged at the awards were the Daily Dispatch’s top advertisers, with Ronnies Motors Trust taking home the award for Top Local Advertiser in the direct or classified category. Multilayer Advertising Agency won the Top 10 Local Newcomer Award, while the Amathole District Municipality won the Top Public Sector Advertiser.
The Top Local Advertising Agency Award went to Makinwa Media Management. — By DERRICK SPIES, Business Reporter. derricks@dispatch.co.za
