Charlize Theron admits jumping the gun with Mandela ‘meeting’
OSCAR-winning South African-born actress Charlize Theron has admitted to auctioning off a meeting with Nelson Mandela without getting his permission.
Theron’s publicist, Amanda Silverman, was quoted as saying: “In an effort to raise money at a charity auction, and with the excitement of the night, Theron added a meeting with Nelson Mandela to a South African travel package without checking in advance with the former president’s office.”
Unfortunately, it turned out that the meeting with Mandela was not possible, added Silverman. — Sapa

A SPECIAL tribute to “Mama Afrika”, Miriam Makeba, will take place in November.
The tribute, which will take place on November 9, marks the first anniversary of Makeba’s passing, the Department of Arts and Culture said on Saturday. — Sapa
Delivery shakeup for Lusikisiki
HOME Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma will today launch a community forum to monitor service delivery in Lusikisiki.
A similar forum was launched early this year in Umzimkhulu, in KwaZulu-Natal.

A MAN and woman were found dead in their bed by an employee in Butterworth at the weekend.
“A 40-year-old man and his girlfriend were found murdered on Friday at Mzantsi Locality, Sihlabeni Village, Ngqamakhwe,” police said. — Sapa
Man robbed, killed at home
A 69-YEAR-OLD man was found murdered at his home at Holela Village in Centane, Butterworth.
It is suspected he had been robbed on Thursday night. No arrest had been made as yet, police said. — Sapa
Man attacks cops with knife
A MAN has been charged with attempted murder after he attacked a police constable with a bush knife during his arrest on Friday afternoon.
“It is alleged two policemen were attending a domestic violence complaint at the Tywaka Locality’s Fort Malan Village near Willowvale, where the suspect was abusing his mother,” said Captain Jackson Manatha.
“A police constable fired a shot that hit the suspect in the thigh. He was rushed to an East London hospital. A case of attempted murder was opened against the suspect.” — Sapa
