THE long break the Bulldogs have had resulted in many players recharging their batteries and they are raring to go again in their quest to help Border secure Border their first win in the Currie Cup .
We have unfortunately put ourselves under pressure resulting in a situation where we know anything less than a win in Welkom against the Griffons will be deemed a failure.
Our aim is to make sure we build on the performance against the Eagles at home three weeks ago, and that we begin to feel comfortable with our gameplan that we have been applying in training.
As I have mentioned before, this team has enough quality in it to compete and do well in this section, and that it will take one victory to cross over to the other side of the thin line. The two weeks that we had off together gave me a lot of confidence in the way the players can adapt to the requirements of the coaching staff, but having said this, we need to understand that we cannot practise well and not finish the job by getting victories in the competition.
The return of captain Chumani Booi along with lock stalwarts Bruce Cumming and Nomani Tonga, should lift the side to perform at a higher level. Many of our combinations need to start firing, especially in the backlin,e where the backs have struggled to finish off try-scoring opportunities. The job of travelling to Welkom and winning, has been difficult in previous years but I am quietly confident we will make this coming weekend our watershed weekend and restore the Bulldogs supporters’ faith in our team.
I urge our supporters once again to come to our home matches which have been shifted to Mdantsane, to accommodate the Border Rugby Stadium’s renovation in preparation for the 2010 World Cup, to get behind the team as your support still means a lot to the team and the establishment.
