FORGET the sometimes gruff Scots tennis star Andy Murray, the Wimbledon crowd has a homegrown star to talk about – a puppy called Maggie.

Little Maggie, named after a famous Rod Stewart song, may have an important part to play in the coveted men’s singles title. Murray bought the border terrier to help deal with the pressure of Britain’s huge expectations at the tournament.

But, apparently, Maggie is non- plussed. “I don’t think Maggie really gets Wimbledon. I came back to the flat last night and she comes charging over,” said Murray on yesterday. ”I said: ‘Everyone has been asking about you today, you’re famous. I put her down and she goes and pees behind the sofa.” — Sapa AFP
