MOSCOW - South Africa's Ryk Neethling broke his own world record in the 100-metre medley in 52.01 seconds at a short course World Cup swim meet at the Olympic Stadium here yestersday. Neethling shaved one-tenth of a second off his previous record of 52.11, set at a World Cup meet in Berlin on Saturday, when he also broke a four-day-old record set by another South African, Roland Schoeman. Schoeman, who combined with Neethling to help South Africa to the Olympic 400m freestyle relay gold in Athens, finished second in 53.88, followed by Ukraine's Sergiy Sergeyev at 55.01. Neethling, the World Cup overall leader with 1 071 points after five events, also won the 100m freestyle in 47.3 seconds. Jason Lezak of the United States was second, 0.16 seconds behind. Yuri Prilukov of Russia, unbeaten in the men's 1 500 and 400m freestyle races in five previous World Cups, clocked 3 minutes, 45.04 seconds to win the 400 for his 11th consecutive victory. World record-holder Oleg Lisogor of Ukraine dominated the 50m breaststroke, clocking 26.67, beating Ed Moses of the United States by 0.71 seconds.
