Grosjean out injured

PARIS -- French number one Sebastien Grosjean has suffered a muscle tear in his left thigh and will miss the Masters Series tennis competition in Monte Carlo next week, French tennis officials said.

Grosjean was injured last week in the quarter-finals of the Davis Cup in Toulouse and had to drop out of the competition. The muscle tear was confirmed by tests at a clinic outside Paris.

"This lesion requires two to three weeks of complete rest," said a statement by the French Tennis Federation.

Grosjean told French sports daily L'Equipe in comments published yesterday that he would go to Florida and return to Paris on April 22 for further tests.

"It's a matter of a little tear, but it will force me to rest completely for at least two weeks," he was quoted as saying.

"It's strange, because this type of injury usually affects soccer players."-- Sapa-AP
