Longest bridge being built ANTIRION Greece -- Work is well under way on the world's longest suspension bridge across the Gulf of Corinth intended to link northwestern Greece with Peloponnesia in the south. The giant bridge, designed to be earthquake- and hurricane-proof, was originally thought to be technically impossible to build, but it has been under construction since July, 1998, by a Franco-Greek consortium. The bridge will link Antirion with Rion, and has a span of 2883 metres. -- Sapa-AFP Stocks & Stats Editorial Entertainment Features Television & Radio Sport Weather Tides Aircraft |
