Stagnant pool irks resident EAST LONDON -- A "disgusting stagnant" dam of water has remained directly in front of a Beacon Bay townhouse for more than a decade, possibly due to insufficient drainage, said resident Lydia Farinha. Since 1982, the Farinha family has repeatedly complained about the dam -- which would dry and quickly refill after small rainfalls -- to both the former Beacon Bay Municipality and the current East London Municipality. "But nothing has been done," she said, adding that hundreds of mosquitoes emerged from the green unhealthy water. Farinha said she had once been told the dam was a result of drainage pipes being too small. "I understand it would cost a lot of money to rectify the pipes, so all I'm requesting is for the municipality to occasionally clean out the water." Head of the roads engineering branch Sean Peard said he would investigate the matter. -- DDR Stocks & Stats Editorial Entertainment Features Television & Radio Sport Weather Tides Aircraft |
