Lightning destroys holiday home

PORT ALFRED -- A holiday home at Riet River near here was reduced to smouldering embers after it was struck by lightning on Saturday night, police reported yesterday.

The home belongs to businessman Keith Elliot of Bathurst.

Police said the local fire brigade extinguished the blaze and prevented it from spreading to the surrounding wooden holiday homes at the resort.

There were no injuries. -- Sapa
