Large farmhouse gutted by fire

by Phakamisa Ngani

UMTATA -- A candle left burning after a student fell asleep while studying is believed to be the cause of a fire which completely destroyed a large six-bedroomed farmhouse at Clarkebury village in Engcobo in the early hours of yesterday morning.

A family member Monde Njozela, who is the Eastern Cape provincial organiser of the UDM based in East London, said damage to the property, including the building and furniture, was estimated at R450000.

He said the property was not insured.
