Buthelezi to address Sobukwe rally

KING WILLIAM'S TOWN -- Inkatha Freedom Party president Mangosuthu Buthelezi will deliver the keynote address at the 20th anniversary service of the death of PAC founding president Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe in Graaff-Reinet on Saturday, PAC national organiser Phillip Kgosana said yesterday.

Mr Kgosana said Chief Buthelezi would attend the service at the invitation of the Sobukwe family.

Chief Buthelezi had been a close family friend of Mr Sobukwe dating back from their school days.

Mr Sobukwe died of lung cancer in Kimberley on February 27, 1978, while under restriction after serving a three-year jail sentence for incitement.

Other speakers will include PAC president Stanley Mogoba and Eastern Cape party chairman Zingisa Mkhabile.

Mr Kgosana said the ANC national office had not responded to an invitation to attend the service. -- DDR
